The S.C. Freedom of Information Act allows public bodies to collect reasonable fees to fulfill requests pursuant to this statute. In conformity with the FOIA, the Comptroller General's Office may assess the following fees:
- Retrieving information: The fee will not exceed the prorated hourly salary of the lowest-paid employee performing this function.
- Paper copies: 10 cents per page
Although these fees are permitted under the act, the Comptroller General's Office believes taxpayers own public information and therefore does not charge for it, unless a request is for commercial purposes or unreasonable in scope.
